The right size ensures the boot stays secure throughout the ride. Always test-fit the boot before the first ride – and do it indoors on a rubber mat, board or towel so they stay in mint condition. (If the boot is visibly used or damaged, the right of return does not apply.)
How to put on a Scoot Boot:
- Open the Front Straps and the Pastern Strap on the boot.
- Lift the horse’s hoof with the sole facing up and pull on the boot.
- Pull the rear part over the horse’s heel bulbs and set the hoof on the ground. The bulbs should slide down comfortably without force, yet still fit snugly.
- With the hoof on the ground, fasten the Front Straps. Tip: use a hoof pick to help close the straps if it’s difficult.
- Fasten the straps and make sure you can fit one finger between the horse’s skin and the pastern strap at the front.
Good to know:
- If it’s the horse’s first time in boots, take it gently at first. Just like our own shoes, Scoots become softer and more supple after use.
- Use Trail Gaiters, especially if the horse has never worn Scoot Boots before or has sensitive skin.
Reshaping the rear captivator on the Scoot Boot Classic
The Scoot Boot Classic has a fixed rear captivator – but it can be reshaped using boiling water or a heat gun. By boiling the boot for about 2 minutes you can then stretch and reshape the captivator to your horse’s specific shape.
This way you don’t need any accessories to protect the horse’s hoof from rubbing in the beginning, while the boot is being broken in. Every hoof is unique, and a perfect fit is always of the utmost importance when it comes to equipment.

If the boot fits snugly but comfortably, with the right size and the right model for your horse, you’re ready to head out.
