2023: ✅ Scoot Boots approved for FEI Jumping ✅
Scoot Boots have been approved by the FEI since 2023 as an alternative to traditional iron shoes in show jumping.
Scoot Boots are currently used by many top-ranked FEI jumping riders:
Peder Fredricson, Henrik von Eckermann, Christer Kukuk, Max Khuner, Julien Anquetin, Maya Denis, Rik Nauta, Pieter Devos, Olivier Philippaerts, Martin Fuchs, Katriin Kalle, Elizaveta Minina.

🇸🇪 What applies in Sweden? 🇸🇪
Anything not mentioned in the TR (the Swedish competition rules) is, as a starting point, automatically prohibited.
From autumn 2021 hoof boots were mentioned in the TR for the first time, and at that point they were approved for use within the competition grounds but not in the warm-up or on the competition course. This was a first step in the right direction!
Hoof boots are now described as follows. The TR states:
306.7 Barefoot shoes, whose purpose is to replace shoes, count as horseshoes. Barefoot shoes are defined as equipment that is not fastened higher than below the coronet band and/or on the bulbs of the heel.
✦ The total weight of all equipment on one horse leg (boots, brushing boots, hoof boots, fetlock rings, fetlock straps or similar) is at most 500 grams.
✦ The horseshoe, including barefoot shoes, is not counted in the weight. The above applies to both front and hind legs.
So barefoot boots are permitted on the competition grounds, in the warm-up and on the competition course. However, it has been debated whether the pastern strap is permitted under the TR or not, and we leave that answer to the respective ground jury / judge.
At competitions outside the FEI, it’s always best to ask the ground jury / judge what applies for the specific competition you plan to take part in.
