The sooner you catch a change, the easier it is to turn around. Three classic signs: a sharp, sour smell from the frog; black, sticky residue in the frog grooves; and bumps or crusts in the pastern. If you find any: tighten the dry-clean-airy routine and follow the development daily. Crusts should not be picked off.
