In Sweden, our soils are naturally low in selenium, which means our hay is very likely deficient in this essential trace mineral. On top of that, protein and sugar levels can vary a lot depending on weather and harvest timing. <\/p>
A forage analysis gives you the baseline\u2014so you can avoid underfeeding protein or overfeeding sugar and energi for example.<\/p>
\ud83d\udca7 Water analysis<\/p>
A horse can easily drink 30\u201350 liters\/day, Swedish groundwater often contains higher levels of iron and calcium (kalk):<\/p>
– High iron: may build up without you noticing and can reduce the absorption of zinc and copper which can affect coat, skin\u2013and hoof quality.<\/p>
– High calcium: hard water can significantly increase total calcium intake, making it harder to keep the right calcium-to-phosphorus ratio needed for skeletal health.<\/p>
The bottom line<\/p>
Precision matters. Analyzing both forage and water helps you supplement what\u2019s missing\u2014without adding minerals that are already present in excess.<\/p>
